The Holy Church of the Cyberpapacy originates on Magna Verita - a medieval world, a world in which the forces of Satan are readily apparent, and where the Inquisition pervades everywhere.
During the invasion of Earth, the technology possessed by the realm surged forward to embrace cybernetic implants and high tech weaponry, changing the High Lord to become the CyberPope, and rewriting church doctrine in the process.
This CyberPope, Jean Malreaux I claims that he is God's chosen saviour, and that the other invading realms are proof that the Apocalypse is near. His followers are told that only by following the restrictive orders of the church can they hope for salvation. All who do not follow the ways of the church are denounced as heretics, and are dealt with severely by the Church Police.
A major tool of the CyberChurch is the GodNet a semi-spiritual, semi-technological network incorporating virtual reality images with religious overtones and the cyberpunk 'decking' experience.
Due to their medieval origins, many of the members of the CyberInquisition are unaware of any technology lying between ploughshares and cybernetics. Members of the CyberChurch or the Church Police who are originally from Earth do not suffer from this shortsightedness.
Magic in the CyberPapacy is powerful, but all magical activities are implicitly aided by demonic forces, and are heretical in the eyes of the church. Practitioners of magic are rigorously hunted down, and condemned to Virtual Hell - a section of the GodNet where damned souls are sent.
